This secluded retreat, designed for two, is a tranquil haven where you can unwind amidst the beauty of the mountains, with only the whisper of the wind while soaking in the wood-fire hot tub during your stay. Welcome to Hideaway Cottage — a unique off-grid retreat nestled in the lower foothills of the Rivier-Sonderend Mountains, within the serene Skuilkrans Private Nature Reserve, just outside McGregor. Hideaway Cottage is a newly built, eco-friendly retreat that seamlessly blends comfort with sustainability. Powered by a solar inverter system and using harvested rainwater for all water needs, this open-plan cottage offers a tranquil escape in nature. The spacious layout includes a separate toilet and shower, while large folding doors open onto a generous patio, inviting you to immerse yourself in the breathtaking mountain views and experience true open-air living.
Access: The ~2 hour route from town to the cabin requires a 4x4 vehicle with low range and high ground clearance. A transfer service is available at an additional cost if needed.
Water Supply: Rainwater is collected and stored in tanks for non-drinking purposes (shower, toilet, washing dishes). A 20L container of fresh drinking water is provided in the kitchen, but guests are encouraged to bring additional bottled water.
Toilet Facilities: The property uses an eco-friendly septic tank system with flush toilets.
This cabin is only reachable by 4x4 vehicles with high ground clearance and low-range transfer capability. If your vehicle does not meet these requirements it will not make it to the cabin — the shuttle service costs R1250. The drive from McGregor to the cabin takes up to 2 hours on the 4x4 jeep track, so arriving in McGregor by 2 pm at the latest is essential to reach the cabin in daylight.
Guests have the whole cabin and may follow the jeep tracks up the mountain for incredible hikes and mountain biking — with full access to explore the nature reserve.
